Eigengrau is German for intrinsic gray, which is the color one sees behind closed eyes. The website is a piece of hypertext-fiction about someone in a co-working space gone missing. It’s an attempt to articulate the dematerialization and alienation of knowledge workers as an emergent condition.

Inside Eigengrau the visitor can find three pieces of my writing. The first is about attention and its limitations by which we interface with technology. Another, about a particular strain of corporate gray literature that briefly emerged in response to the pandemic. The third is about the Apple Shape Library, abstraction and a desire for a universal language that manifests itself through the proliferation of geometric vector drawings.
